Partnership for CO2 management

SMC has entered into a partnership with First Climate and will provide support in determining and offsetting emissions. 

SMC has entered into a partnership with First Climate. The company will support the automation specialist in determining and offsetting emissions. 

This means that, across the various stages of the value chain, the CO2-emissions are calculated according to recognised standards and unavoidable emissions are offset by the purchase of climate certificates become. For example, SMC Deutschland GmbH has set its first CO2-neutrality is achieved.

Sustainability is a core element of the corporate mission statement of SMC and deeply embedded in the company's culture. The sustainability goals are based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN in 2015. The environmental agenda adopted by SMC Germany in 2021 focuses on three areas: Measures to strengthen climate protection, the development of sustainable products and solutions, as well as promoting a sustainable working environment and strengthening sustainability programmes in the region.

Resource and climate protection

The company has set itself ambitious goals in the area of climate protection. Since January 2022, SMC has been 100 per cent green electricity or biogas and thus already has a completely climate-neutral energy supply today achieved. By 2025, 40 per cent of the electrical energy used in buildings at the Egelsbach site is to come from in-house generation. The company is currently working on electrifying its vehicle fleet and building a large photovoltaic system.

Since SMC was founded, the company's actions have been characterised by the Japanese MUDA principle, i.e. the avoidance of waste and inefficiencies. SMC therefore develops and sells products with high quality and durability, production with low material usage and low energy consumption in operation. In addition, the products are always developed in collaboration with customers in order to produce according to their needs. The company is thus further expanding its extensive range of energy-efficient products: The most recent examples are compressed air cylinders with compressed air consumption reduced by around 30 per cent, volume flow boosters to reduce compressed air consumption and impulse compressed air guns.

The third central pillar of SMC's environmental agenda is diversity, occupational safety and regional initiatives. So the company promotes gender equality through numerous programmes, particularly in management roles, and the safety, development and well-being of its employees. SMC supports local environmental protection projects for greater biodiversity and the protection and restoration of ecosystems. For example, SMC is planting 4,200 trees as part of a reforestation project at Frankfurt Airport and realising public transport concepts in the region with partners.
