PepsiCo Germany will be the first beverage company in Germany to exclusively use 100 per cent recycled plastic (rPET) by the end of 2021. This applies to all drinks from the carbonated soft drink (CSD) brands and the Lipton Ice Tea range. .

The company plans to invest seven million euros in the switch to recycled plastic. PepsiCo puts the annual saving in new plastic at 15,000 tonnes. This would be the equivalent of around 12.42 million Lego bricks. And a CO2 equivalent of 28,500 tonnes - that is the amount that 6,200 cars emit in a year.

This surpasses PepsiCo its previous announcement to use 50 per cent rPET across the European Union by 2030. The company is achieving this through close cooperation with partners in the supply chain, which has improved the appearance of recycled plastic and simplified access to supply.

The switch to 100 per cent rPET by the end of 2021 in Germany includes all PepsiCo CSD beverage brands including, for example, Pepsi, Pepsi MAX and Schwip Schwap as well as the Lipton Ice Tea portfolio and applies to all company-owned and franchise operations.

„Plastic waste is a challenge that we need to respond to now. That's why we are already taking concrete action by converting the entire PepsiCo CSD brands, including Pepsi and Pepsi MAX as well as the Lipton Ice Tea portfolio, to 100 per cent rPET in Germany by the end of 2021. For us, this is a decisive step on the way to Europe's ‚Green Recovery‘. We want to initiate a transformation within the beverage industry that will help us to realise our vision of a closed-loop economy with maximum bottle-to-bottle recycling.“
Silviu Popovici, Chief Executive Officer PepsiCo Europe

The company explicitly points out that these are „forward-looking statements“ that are based on currently available information, operating plans and forecasts of future events and trends.
