One of the pioneers of the circular economy for PET bottles, Petcycle GmbH from Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, is now celebrating its twentieth anniversary.
With an innovative Reusable pool box system In 1999, the company launched a closed material cycle for disposable PET bottles on the German market. In the meantime, around 60 medium-sized beverage producers the sustainable recycling system. With over 1.2 billion bottles and a Market share of around eight per cent Petcycle plays an important role in the beverage market.
Designed from the outset for sustainability and the reuse of PET as a recyclable material, the returnable crates with a deposit have ensured that empty disposable bottles have been almost completely recycled for 20 years. With a Recycling rate of over 99 per cent and the Use of currently over 60 per cent recycled material in every single-use bottle, Petcycle's system is a role model for the circular economy that is just beginning to develop in many places.
Within the recycling process, the entire return is 100 per cent recycled and recycled in PET bottles or other PET products. Accordingly, there is no disposal into the environment, no export and no thermal utilisation. But the Recyclable PET too precious.
Petcycle bottles have already achieved the environmental friendliness of returnable glass bottles for several years due to their high recycled content and low weight. Experts consider both types of drinks packaging to be equally climate-friendly.

Petcycle is the pioneer of the PET circular economy and now has 20 years of experience in operating closed, sustainable recycling loops for mineral water and soft drinks. The system's participants include over 60 bottlers, recycling companies and packaging manufacturers. Around 150 beverage brands are filled in Petcycle bottles. The intention behind its foundation 20 years ago was to create a new packaging system that made ecological and economic sense. Today, the system is a role model for sustainable recycling management with almost 100 per cent return, 100 per cent recyclability of the bottles throughout and the use of over 60 per cent recyclate[/infotext].
