
Following an investment in the double-digit million range, Sappi has now commissioned a new plant for the production of high-barrier papers at its Alfeld site. The plant produces high-barrier papers for recyclable packaging.

The investment in the new plant also includes a Coating kitchen, roller finishing and an automated handling system, which has a scalable, high production volume of 300 million m2 as well as opportunities for the development of customised solutions and continuous coating innovations. Various coating technologies can be used on the new machine depending on requirements and application. The company uses the Water-based dispersion technology for multi-layer coating of high-barrier papers.
Sappi plans to use its in-house development of coating recipes in the special coating kitchen on the machine in the future. In cooperation with customers, this will Further alternatives to non-recyclable packaging developed for the market, which will benefit both consumers and manufacturers of branded goods.
