The Swedish company Pulpac specialises in the production of fibre-based packaging. A collaboration with the company Liplid has resulted in a fibre-based lid for coffee cups that is fully recyclable. In a collaboration with the burger chain Max Burgers, these lids are now being used throughout Sweden.
"This was a fantastic project where we adapted Liplid's brilliant product to our technology - and will produce the first series of two million lids. We look forward to seeing them in operation at Max Burgers," says Sanna Fager, Chief Commercial Officer at Pulpac.

The Swedes' fibre moulding technology has made it possible to produce the lid from fibres. The dry moulded fibre method offers structural strength in production as well as the possibility of undercuts and automatic destacking. The material thickness can also be adjusted so that thin fibre products can also be produced. The drying process also saves water resources and energy, which, according to the company, results in up to 80 per cent less CO2-footprint compared to alternatives.
Honoured with WorldStar Packaging Award
"The world needs intelligent and functional alternatives to single-use plastics. With Pulpac's innovative approach, we at Liplid have produced a fully recyclable, plastic-free and biodegradable cup lid with a new and unique designthat brings a new drinking experience to the market," says Jesper Berthold, CEO at Liplid.
The lid is placed inside the cup and not on top of it to prevent leakage and improve the stability and drinking experience of drinks on the go. The design, which according to the company uses 25 per cent less material, was honoured with the World Star Packaging Award 2022, among others.
