Record sales and reduced CO2 emissions

In 2022, Heinzel Group achieved a record turnover in the company's history and reduced CO2 emissions at the same time. 

In 2022, Heinzel Group achieved a record turnover in the company's history. The company was able to increase net sales by 36.6 per cent and reduce CO2-emissions by 15 per cent at the same time. 

In view of several crises in 2022, including the Ukraine crisis, the European energy crisis and the sharp general cost increases, the Heinzel Group resilient and reacted flexibly to market changes. A All-time high in pulp and paper prices contributed to an increase in net sales of the Group by 36.6 per cent to € 2,777.4 million in 2022. Overall, the company generated EBITDA of € 287.5 million, an increase of 46.8%, while simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions (Scope 1&2) by 14.9% to 535,333 tonnes.

In 2022, Heinzel Group also set the course for future sustainable growth: it signed a contract for the Acquisition of the Steyrermühl paper mill in Upper Austria from UPM and will take over the site at the end of 2023. „Our vision is to develop Steyrermühl into a European hub for sustainable packaging papers and renewable energies together with our neighbouring Laakirchen mill,“ says Sebastian Heinzel, CEO of the Heinzel Group. The Conversion of a decommissioned machine for the production of kraft paper for flexible packaging at the site has already begun.

In the past year, the company also became a strategic investor in Paracel, a major Reforestation project in Paraguay, South America, with the aim of building the country's first pulp mill. „Our strong results in 2022 put us in a position to take bold strategic steps with a view to a sustainable future,“ says Sebastian Heinzel. „This also gives us a solid basis for facing a challenging 2023.“
