The deposit cups from the Munich-based company ReCup are now available at around 900 Aral petrol stations. Aral wants to set an example for more sustainability in the to-go business.
From 1 February 2021, Aral customers will be able to take drinks-to-go in sustainable deposit cups for a deposit of one euro, enjoy them on the go and then return the cups to the shop. at 6,000 issuing centres throughout Germany to hand in. Aral wants to actively combat disposable waste.
The demand for coffee-to-go at petrol stations is immense, which means that the savings potential there is enormous. This is also shown by the balance sheet of the petrol station company Shell, which last year achieved Over two million disposable cups at Germany's petrol stations could be saved.
Germany-wide infrastructure of the ReCup system is growing
Coffee can now also be refuelled sustainably and without waste at pit stops. As of 1 February, 900 Aral stations are already using the reusable system and, according to the petrol station giant, it is expected that this will increase over the course of this year. More than half of the 2,400 Aral locations to the Recup system.

This means that the deposit system is now available at over 6,000 outlets across Germany and is becoming increasingly widespread, especially in rural areas.
Sustainability to go
The deposit cups are available in three different sizes and certified with the Blue Angel, which proves that all materials used are fully recyclable. The seal of the Federal Environment Agency is only awarded in the area of „resource-saving reusable cup systems“ if the product is made of unmixed plastic without a coating that enables material recycling. In addition, the durability of the reusable cup must be verifiable.
As a nationwide, analogue deposit system creates Recup a simple, cost-effective and sustainable alternative, not just to the environmental problem of disposable cups. In addition to Recup cups, the deposit system has also been offering Rebowl bowls as a reusable deposit solution for takeaway food since June 2020.
