Amcor and Mediacor have jointly developed a recyclable 2-litre refill bag for the Nana cleaning brand. The packaging saves up to 80 per cent plastic and significantly reduces the carbon footprint, according to the statement.

Amcor and Mediacor have jointly launched a new 2-litre stand-up pouch with spout for liquid products. The packaging solution was developed specifically for the Nana brand, which has been using recycled materials for almost a decade.

The so-called AmPrima bag will initially be sold in Germany, Austria, Italy and Slovenia. It consists of a single material and is certified as recyclable in three countries. The companies are thus addressing the increasing demand for sustainable packaging and at the same time fulfilling the requirements of the EU Packaging Regulation.

Sustainable packaging saves CO₂ and plastic

According to Amcor, the new refill pouch reduces plastic consumption by up to 80 per cent compared to two conventional 1-litre PET bottles. At the same time, the carbon footprint is reduced by up to 64 per cent. These values are based on the company's own ASSET life cycle assessment model, which has been certified by the Carbon Trust.

The introduction of the pouch is part of Mediacor's broader sustainability strategy. Nana has always used only PET bottles made from 100 per cent recycled material. Expanding the portfolio to include flexible bulk packaging was a logical next step. The filling lines were converted accordingly for production.

Ecolabel-compliant and suitable for e-commerce

The AmPrima bag fulfils the requirements of the EU Ecolabel, which is only awarded to products with a high level of environmental compatibility. At the same time, the packaging is optimised for online retail: it passes drop tests from a height of up to 1.5 metres, is ISTA 6A-certified and has been specially designed for the stresses and strains of e-commerce transport.

Trivko Matovic, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mediacor, emphasised the importance of the new packaging: „Together with Amcor, we have taken another big step towards sustainability. Thanks to Amcor's speed and expertise, we can now offer 19 products in recyclable refill pouches just nine months after the initial discussions.“

Amcor also sees the collaboration as a forward-looking project. Geoffrey Gendebien, Marketing Manager for Home and Personal Care Products, said: „Amcor is proud to work with pioneers like Nana who are setting new standards for sustainable home and personal care products.“
