Mondi has teamed up with UK packaging supplier Welton Bibby & Baron (WBB) to develop recyclable paper bags for fresh bread products. This new packaging offers an environmentally friendly alternative to non-recyclable bread packaging.
Together with Welton Bibby & Baron Mondi developed recyclable paper packaging for the UK retail sector. The bags are made from Mondi's FunctionalBarrier Paper Reduce, the thinnest paper in the company's barrier paper range. The kraft paper is made from responsibly sourced fibres and coated in-house to provide the necessary Protection against moisture, grease and water vapour while preserving the freshness and moisture of the bread.
„Our MAP2030 sustainability goals underpin our commitment to recyclable packaging that meets the needs of customers and consumers for environmentally friendly solutions.“
Mick Robinson, Head of Business Solutions at Mondi
The packaging is characterised by two variants: A brown Bag with a glassine window that is recycled together with the bag and a white bag whose removable film window is disposed of separately. Both packs carry the On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) and can be recycled via street collection throughout the UK.
„The expertise of the Mondi team has enabled us to develop an excellent solution in a short space of time and we look forward to continuing to work together to meet future regulatory requirements.“
