EcoString Breadbag: drawstring made from film saves resources

Schur bread packaging Ecostring breadbag

The EcoString Breadbag, a new packaging concept from Schur Flexibles, is closed with a drawstring. The sustainable bread packaging is a further development of the EcoString bag concept from the cosmetics industry and a resource-saving alternative to the established clip bag.

Instead of the usual closure clip, the EcoString Breadbag is closed with a drawstring - a concept that has already proven itself in the packaging of cotton wool pads. For the drawstring Schur Flexibles one edge strip of the bag, so that the entire packaging is made from the same, fully recyclable mono-PP or PE film exists. The bread packaging also has an advantage for the consumer, as handling and disposal are even easier.

"With the film drawstring, we use production waste as a functional part of the packaging. Eliminating the metal or plastic clip saves resources and simplifies logistics for our customers." Michael MartinHead of R&D Food and Schur Flexibles PackScience Centre

EcoString Breadbag combines sustainability and comfort

"The aim was to develop a product that intelligently combines sustainability and convenience and at the same time works on existing packaging lines," explains Michael Martin. The switch to the EcoString Breadbag can be combined with an adaptation to the sealing station of common drawstring bag machines to manage. However, the positive effects on sustainability and handling make the investment absolutely worthwhile. The recyclable bread packaging is a further step towards a sustainable circular economy for packaging.
