Two robot models from Yaskawa's Motoman portfolio were honoured with the „Red Dot Award: Product Design 2022“: the compact Motoman GP4 handling robot and the new Motoman SG400 scara robot.

The Motoman GP4 presented in 2021 expands the portfolio Compact and fast 6-axis robot from Yaskawa with a variant for payloads of up to 4 kg. With axis speeds of up to 1,000 degrees/s, the new Motoman GP4 is above all agile and fast. Its repeat accuracy of +/- 0.01 mm allows it to be used for a wide range of automated applications. Applications that require maximum precision for small workpieces - for example, the flexible handling and feeding of small parts, assembly, loading and unloading of machines or cycle time-critical inspection tasks. The compact robot is also characterised by a small footprint and an attractive price-performance ratio.

Surprising in form and functionality

The robust Motoman SG400 Scara robot with a 3 kg payload capacity is also particularly suitable for applications requiring both high speeds and high precision require. The repeat accuracy is also +/- 0.01 mm. Typical areas of application are, for example Assembly processes for very small parts or robot-based picking and packing, dosing and feeding in the processing industry as well as in the food, medical products and cosmetics industries. Low interference contours reduce the risk of collision and enable the robots to be operated in the tightest of spaces. The internal media routing ensures reliable work processes and reduces maintenance requirements.

„The fact that there are still designs that surprise in terms of form and functionality is truly impressive and commendable. This makes it clear that design does not allow itself to be restricted by unfavourable circumstances or even stagnate. Quite the opposite: new ideas and creations are constantly emerging and futuristic-looking techniques are being developed. The fact that the quality of these products is on a par with the degree of innovation makes them well-deserved winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2022.“
