L'Occitane and VPI are launching a refillable cosmetics packaging made from recycled PP. The can of Shea Ultra Rich Body Cream can be refilled and reused with an insert made from post-consumer recycled material.
Ecological responsibility plays an important role for L'Occitane This is reflected in the ingredients and the packaging and accessories used. In addition to the introduction of a refill pack, the company has opted for the use of a 100 per cent PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) PP material decided. Natural resources are conserved, the recycling sector is supported and, thanks to the lightness of the material, the ecological footprint of the entire supply chain reduced.
„The refill pack of Shea Ultra Rich Body Cream enables us to significantly reduce our dependence on plastic. Compared to our old product, we save more than 40 tonnes a year. It also helps us achieve our goal of using post-consumer recycled plastic. The teams at VPI have mastered this challenge perfectly.“

When developing the packaging, VPI also had the task of Traceability of batches of recycled material to manage and guarantee. A 200ml container needed to be produced within a short lead time. The design of the handle was analysed and a closure was developed that could be opened and closed again to allow a User-friendly and convenient handling to make it possible. The cup is heat-sealed after filling. When first purchased, the cup fits into aluminium packaging and is then ready for refilling on its own.
„At VPI, we are honoured to work with committed companies like L'Occitane en Provence. We are grateful to the teams on the ground who are thinking ahead in terms of eco-design and investing in the development and mass production of products so that they can oversee wonderful, truly eco-designed projects. We are proud to have been able to carry out such in-depth research into recycled materials and to have contributed to the realisation of such ambitious action plans.“
