The Walther Faltbox Group has developed a new reusable transport unit for e-commerce returns for an online mail order company. The rollable and stackable pallet solution reduces the volume of empties transport by around 65 per cent.
Returns are part of day-to-day business in online retail - the requirements for efficient transport solutions are correspondingly high. Walther Faltbox developed a customised pallet unit for a mail order customer that combines stability, mobility and space-saving returns.
The core of the solution is a flexible large load carrier on rollers. A stable, foldable top ring with two removal openings is located between the pallet and the lid. This ring is folded together for the return transport of empty units. This reduces the total volume of the transport unit by around 65 per cent. The pallet, ring and lid are securely connected to each other via a lockable return ring, creating a dimensionally stable unit even when transporting empty units.

For high loads, the pallet is steel-reinforced to prevent deflection under load. The integrated four swivel castors enable manual handling in the warehouse as well as transport by industrial truck. The company has developed a special design to ensure that the empty units can still be stacked without any problems: the castors remain free-rotating in the stack, while special stacking elements fix the lid and pallet in place with a positive fit.
It took less than four months from the first design draft to series delivery. During this time, both the components and the complete tool sets for the pallet, lid and stacking element were created.
