Recyclate forum realigns itself in 2020

Around 100 experts from the 32 members of the Recyclate Forum have now decided on a new direction at a meeting at the dm-drogerie markt headquarters in Karlsruhe. The main topic of the meeting was the question of what contributions the initiative can make in the coming year to promote a functioning circular economy.

Around 100 experts from the 32 members of the Recyclate Forum have now decided on a new direction at a meeting at the dm-drogerie markt headquarters in Karlsruhe.

The main topic of the meeting was the question of what contributions the initiative can make in the coming year to promote a functioning circular economy. The work will soon be organised in the four expert groups Master data management, Technology and recyclability, Recyclate standards and Communication be divided.

„In the working groups, we can work in a more focussed and technically efficient manner,“ explains dm Managing Director Sebastian Bayer, who launched the recyclate forum more than a year ago.

The steering team of the forum, consisting of the dealers dm-drogerie markt, Globus and Rossmann and industry partners, will accompany the expert groups.

„We need the strong voice of industry with initiatives such as the Recyclates Forum so that we can make tangible progress in the areas of resource conservation and recycling,“ says Harald Notter, Head of the Circular Economy Division at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector.

The most important tasks of the Recyclate Forum 2020 include the Development of further recyclate standards, that offer legal certainty with regard to migration risks. In addition, the availability of high-quality Post-consumer recyclates and further develop technologies to support the increased demand for recyclates. The awarding of Packaging with a high proportion of recycled content on the shelf is to be expanded by standardising and automating master data. The members of the forum also want to provide customers with helpful tips and information on the following topics Recycling and circular economy give.

[infotext]The Recyclate Forum was initiated by dm-drogerie markt in 2018. 32 members consisting of retailers, manufacturers, disposal companies, packaging manufacturers and political representatives represent the entire value chain along the circular economy. The initiative is working together to promote consumer awareness of the circular economy in order to achieve the separation of recyclable materials by type. The long-term aim is to increase the recycling rate and the proportion of recycled materials in products and packaging. Furthermore, the forum is endeavouring to reduce packaging and to ensure that packaging is recyclable right from the creation process of new packaging so that it remains a resource in the cycle.
