Together with its retail partner Billa, Ritter Sport is now offering a limited edition packaged in paper in Austria. Following the first prototype at the beginning of 2020, the company is now taking a further step towards paper-based primary packaging.
How does chocolate in paper work?

The Swabian family-owned company hopes that the practical test will provide insights into how paper packaging behaves, for example, during automatic packaging, transport and finally on the shelf. The material of the packaging corresponds to that of the prototype, however, is somewhat thicker in grammage and therefore more robust - a learning from the first test in January.
„Our aim is to develop a packaging material made from a renewable, recyclable raw material that also fulfils our high standards of product protection and safety. Based on our experience with the 500 sheets of our prototype, we have made optimisations that we are now testing in practice with a considerably larger quantity. Now it's a question of whether the paper proves itself on the typical route from production to the end consumer.“ Katja Binder, Head of Packaging Development at Ritter Sport.
Because Ritter Sport always focuses on the inner values, it's not just the innovative packaging that should impress, but also the flavour inside: Chocolate & Grass, a milk chocolate with hemp seeds. The limited edition of 35,000 bars is available exclusively from Billa.
