Sabic has announced the opening of a new Technology & Innovation Centre for the Caps & Closures segment in Geleen, the Netherlands. Located at Sabic's European Technology Centre on the Chemelot campus, this investment underlines the company's commitment to the development of new materials and technologies for cap and closure applications.
The opening of the new facility was led by Sergi Monros, Sabic Vice President for Performance Polymers & Industry Solutions, Petrochemicals. This opening comes just one year after Sabic opened the Caps & Closures Industry Segment Organisation was founded.
„Through our market-oriented organisation, we are already strongly focused on innovation-driven solutions that respond to changing trends, which is what our customers expect from us in this strategic market segment,“ says Monros. „The state-of-the-art technical centre enables us to accelerate and expand the development of industry-leading materials and technologies for relevant applications. In addition to caps and lids, this also includes pumping, dosing and other product conveying systems for beverages, food and non-food items.“

Monros points to the growing demand for creative solutions that are sustainable, cost-effective and standard-compliant. These solutions must also fulfil the increasing regulations for Product safety and Consumer protection fulfil. „End users also expect fit-for-purpose solutions and we are always keen to contribute to functional improvements.“
SABIC consistently utilises pioneering technologies both in the development of new materials and for application tests. The specially developed for applications in this field Polymers for example, support the development of lighter caps or more efficient or easier to manufacture pumps and dosing systems, while at the same time supporting our customers' efforts to increase their overall sustainability.
„The new technology and innovation centre for caps and lids provides an environment in which we can deepen collaboration with our customers and ultimately develop better solutions with our customers. Increased customer benefit can offer,“ concludes Monros.
The centre has equipment for simulating the actual performance of caps and lids in practice. The equipment in the application-specific research laboratory includes material testing devices for mechanical properties, dimensional stability and stress cracking resistance (ESCR). It can Sample fasteners to test their performance for potential applications on site and to optimise existing products. In addition, the capacities are also geared towards the development and testing of new product designs.
