At interpack, Sappi will be showcasing innovative paper and board products as well as flexible packaging solutions, including barrier papers, wet glue labels, corrugated board and fish fibre board. The company will also be providing information about current investments in its various plants.

Sappi has significantly expanded its portfolio of packaging papers and equipped its production facilities with new, state-of-the-art technologies.

„Increasingly, our customers are not only endeavouring to, but are also increasingly legally obliged to use sustainably produced and recyclable materials for the packaging of their products. The expectation for sustainable packaging is not only increasing among manufacturers, but also among consumers. We have invested in our sites in order to be able to react quickly and flexibly to current and future market requirements and to further consolidate our position as a premium supplier of wood fibre-based packaging paper and board.“

Sappi has invested a multi-million euro amount in its plant in Alfeld (Germany). invested in a completely new type of barrier coating system, which was recently put into operation together with its own coating kitchen and an automatic transport system. The ultra-modern solution is used for the production of innovative high-barrier papers. New product samples will be presented at the trade fair.

Sappi will also be presenting two new papers from the Guard product family: the Guard HS high barrier paper, which ensures excellent product protection thanks to its strong water vapour barrier and heat-sealing properties, and Guard Twist, a paper with an integrated barrier for twisting applications in the food industry, which can be used as confectionery packaging, for example.

Also completely new in the functional paper packaging segment is the product Seal Light from Sappi, a sealable paper without barriers, which for the first time in the Nature version with 45 g/m2 basis weight and in the gloss version with 55 g/m2 basis weight is presented. The paper is intended for primary and secondary packaging.

New uncoated flexible packaging paper

In addition to the functional papers, Sappi is introducing further new papers for flexible packaging. With Crystalcon, the company presents an uncoated and compostable transparent paper that is suitable for both food and non-food applications. It is transparent enough to make the packaged product visible and can be used as a sustainable alternative to film. Possible applications range from pasta or rice packaging to magazines, viewing windows for envelopes and sales packaging for greeting cards.

Of course, Sappi will also be presenting its Parade Label Pro wet-glue label paper - the one-side double-coated, glossy wet-glue label paper with a high degree of whiteness that enables outstanding printing and finishing results. The paper is suitable for all standard wet-glue labelling applications, such as wrap-around labels for disposable bottles, cans and jars, as well as for flexible packaging applications such as chocolate wrappers. Due to increasing demand, Sappi has expanded production to higher basis weights for Parade Label Pro, which was previously available in grammages of 80 g/m² and 90 g/m². The label paper is now also available in 100 g/m², 110 g/m² and 120 g/m². Samples will be available at the trade fair.

New Paperpack Community platform

Many current packaging issues are complex and the transition to sustainable packaging solutions poses real challenges for brand owners and converters. For this reason, Sappi has recently one New online community for the packaging industry launched, where interested parties can discuss relevant topics. Registration information will be available at the stand.
