Sattler Premium Print GmbH is using new production technology to modernise its entire sheetfed offset printing process, from the cut sheet through printing to the fully automated palletised folded sheet. The investment is an example of the positive mood that has returned to the German printing industry, says press manufacturer Heidelberg, which received the major order.
The major order comprises a Speedmaster XL 106-8-P+L eight-colour perfecting press of the latest generation, a Stahlfolder TH 82-P buckle plate folder in the high-performance class with PFX feeder and P-stacker, and a Polar N 137 PACE cutting system with autotrim, rear table loading and automatic layer rotation (PACE stands for Polar Automation for Cutting Efficiency). The new systems from Heidelberg should go into operation between April and July 2022.
„The aim of the investment is to significantly increase production output with the same number of staff. Thanks to the technology from Heidelberg, we will have largely automated our processes from the unprinted flat sheet to the folding process to the palletised signature from this summer.“ Ralf Büttner, at Sattler Media Group Managing Director Technology + Organisation
For this purpose Sattler Premium Print Sheetfed offset, cutting and folding technology Integrate into a digital workflow control system. All information that favours the fastest possible automatic set-up process is transmitted to the production systems from the prepress stage. This also includes the data from the imposition software for fully automatic calculation of the cutting programmes on the Polar PACE system.
Ralf Büttner also expects a considerable acceleration in production thanks to the Stahlfolder TH 82-P folding machine. As the PFX feeder feeds the flat sheets to the folding system in an underscaled manner, he says achieve a folding capacity of up to 18,000 sheets per hour. As a result, the Stahlfolder TH 82-P will produce at eye level with the Speedmaster XL 106, and the peak performance from sheetfed offset will be seamlessly transferred to postpress.
At the exit of the folding machine, a P-stacker will take the signature stacks and automatically place them on pallets. Apart from the fact that the robot ensures high process stability at a high speed level, It will relieve the operating personnel of heavy physical labour. Meanwhile, the staff can turn their attention to other, more productive tasks.
Investment behaviour grows noticeably
Sattler Premium Print GmbH's investment in the latest high-performance technology is an example of the positive mood that has returned to the German printing industry. After the industry had been cautious in the past two years, printing companies increasingly want to modernise their technology and invest in state-of-the-art production systems.
„We are seeing growing investment behaviour in all markets and regions. The sales we have been able to conclude in recent months give us confidence and show that Heidelberg is on the right track with its innovative solutions, supported by a consistent digitalisation strategy.“ David Schmedding, Managing Director of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen Vertrieb Deutschland GmbH
