At the Nuremberg SPS „Smart Production Solutions“ 2021, the Schmersal Group will be demonstrating how the challenges of Industry 4.0 can be overcome through the miniaturisation, digitalisation and networking of safety components and systems.

The miniaturisation of safety components reduces the amount of material required and the space they take up in machines and systems. The advancing digitalisation of safety systems also makes it possible to Greater process transparency and predictive maintenance concepts. In the course of Industry 4.0, machines and systems are becoming more complex and consequently require more extensive safety systems. Networking different safety switching devices is one way of reducing complexity.

The AZM40 is the smallest electronic solenoid interlock in the world and has a high locking force of 2,000 newtons. And thanks to its angular flexibility, the guard locking can also be easily installed in confined and inaccessible areas. The RSS260 RFID safety sensor is also compact. Schmersal equipped the sensor with new software, so that it now offers four additional, optionally selectable functions. These not only make it possible to save on a safety relay module, they also reduce wiring and installation costs.

The most important features of digital production include consistent data exchange. With the Protect PSC1 safety controller, the user can utilise the integrated universal communication interface as a gateway to send diagnostic information from the safety sensors to a higher-level control system. In addition, the modular, programmable safety controller allows users to implement their safety requirements for a wide variety of machines in a targeted and simple manner. A further development of the Protect PSC1 will also be shown for the first timeThe successor model offers a range of additional functions.

More flexibility with less wiring effort

Schmersal offers various solutions to master the increasing complexity of safety measures for larger machines and systems. The Safety Fieldbox enables flexible and individually configurable safety solutions as well as fail-safe „plug & play“ installation of various switch types.

The SD bus from Schmersal is a System for serial diagnosis of series circuits. In conjunction with a new solution from Schmersal - the PSC1 safety controller with
OPC UA connection - the serial diagnostic bus now becomes SD 4.0: This means that Industry 4.0-compatible security concepts that offer a high level of diagnostic convenience and are easily scalable.
