The IMA Schelling Group's Board business unit has developed a wide range of innovative packaging solutions that are specially tailored to the needs of board manufacturers and processors. These solutions range from simple, manually assisted systems to fully automated packaging systems. Stefan Hinterholzer, Head of the Board Business Unit, emphasises: „We offer board manufacturers and processors the complete range of packaging solutions.“

Packing wooden panels: Automated processes and safety

IMA Schelling has analysed the current requirements of panel manufacturers and identified key aspects such as optimised and automated processes and flexible delivery. This should reduce unnecessary forklift truck journeys and thus avoid damage and accidents. Hinterholzer explains: „Today, our customers need optimised and automated processes and must be able to meet the demand for more flexible delivery at all times.“

Automatic squared timber production and feeding is an important part of the portfolio. Using automatic squared timber machines, panel strips are glued on top of each other in a continuous process and cut to the required length. IMA Schelling also relies on customised purchased machines for strapping the panel stacks and manufactures the handling for protective panels and protective cardboard supports in-house.

Integration of modern packaging technologies

In addition to strapping machines, the portfolio also includes systems for weatherproof packaging such as film wrappers and shrink tunnels. To further increase efficiency, IMA Schelling offers the „Stapeldoppler“, which places several stacks of sheets on top of each other to minimise forklift trips. In addition, concepts have been developed for the fully automatic loading of panel stacks into lorries.

A central aspect of the Board business unit is the mechanical networking of the individual assemblies with the conveyor technology. This ranges from simple roller conveyors to link chain conveyors and is selected according to the specific requirements of the products and pallets. Hinterholzer emphasises: „At IMA Schelling, we combine a very large portfolio with decades of experience in interlinking machines and production systems.“

IMA Schelling also offers its own master computer level and all the necessary interfaces to the customer's ERP system to ensure seamless integration of all product and process data. The company ensures that all safety devices fulfil the requirements of the respective country of delivery.
