Sustainability: overall concept

Elanco, Uwe Müller, Roman Meissner

new packaging for animal collars (against fleas, ticks etc.)

Paper, cardboard, carton

Germany

The idea behind this packaging is a further development of the previous can, which was made of tinplate and had a PET sleeve. The result is a pulp can with a sleeve, which should lead to a significant reduction in the CO2 footprint.

The stand allows upright shelf positioning without a display for the first time. A tamper-evident label ensures the first opening by the customer.

Jury statement

The previous packaging, in this case for a dog flea collar, consisted of a tinplate can with a PET sleeve. We switched to a pulp tin with a cardboard sleeve.

The advantages are a significant CO2 reduction of around 70 per cent, including a considerable reduction in overall weight.

Another positive feature is the ability to position the packaging upright on the shelf.

The overall concept was convincing in terms of material substitution and reduction as well as energy savings.
