In the field of servo motors with wireless connectivity, Siboni and CoreTigo are launching a new product that has been specially developed for factory automation. The IO-Link wireless technology enables seamless communication between sensors, actuators and the control level.

As a specialist in highly reliable and efficient brushless servomotors, Siboni is expanding its portfolio with the integration of the wireless communication solution the functionalities of its servomotors. A reliable, wireless, industrial connectivity solution specifically designed for factory automation was sought for this purpose. With the IO-Link wireless products from CoreTigo Siboni has found the right solutions that Enable both the control and monitoring of servo motors in harsh factory environments. The IO-Link Wireless standard ensures industrial, wireless connectivity in cable quality: scalable, highly available and with low latency. IO-Link Wireless offers seamless communication between sensors, actuators and the control level and removes the limitations associated with the use of wired variants.

The expansion of Siboni's servomotors with the wireless IO-Link wireless communication solution enables a wide range of applications and forms the basis of flexible machine constructions and designs. An example illustrates this approach. In the packaging process, rotary indexing tables and carousels are often used for labelling and filling machines. With the help of servomotors these machines realise, among other things, the precise turning and alignment of the products to be processed. The carousels can be equipped with numerous servomotors. These motors rotate endlessly at the high speed of the carousel and must be connected to the machine controller (PLC) at the same time. Until now, connectivity to the PLC has required complex cabling, which is a complex, time-consuming and cost-intensive solution. At the same time, there is a risk of cable breaks, which lead to downtime and require maintenance. IO-Link wireless technology offers a reliable solution for the wireless integration of actuators and sensors without the need for communication cables. are. The flexibility of the machines and processes is increased and a later upgrade with additional sensors and actuators is possible at any time as required. At the same time, maintenance costs are significantly reduced.

„Servo motors are a great example of how deterministic, real-time wireless connectivity enables new solutions and also optimises existing machines. The joint work of Siboni and CoreTigo is groundbreaking and will pave the way for the entire industry.“

Matteo Orlandelli, CoreTigo Country Director Italy

Siboni's servomotors are enhanced with wireless functionality by integrating the CoreTigo IO-Link wireless system-on-module systems (TigoAir SOM) directly into the motors. This Servo motor generation now communicates wirelessly, reliably and with high availability with the IO-Link Wireless Master (TigoMaster). The TigoMaster communicates with the PLC via various integrated real-time industrial Ethernet protocols such as PROFINET, EtherNet-IP or EtherCAT. Other communication protocols, such as OPC UA and MQTT, are also implemented in the master. The PLC sends the corresponding control commands to the wireless servomotor via the IO-Link wireless master. The globally standardised IO-Link wireless solution offers a low latency of 5ms and synchronisation rates of 10 microseconds, required for such control solutions. The SOM solution integrated into the servomotor reduces the number of cables required for the power supply. For example, only one central power supply line is required for all motors mounted on the carousel. The central power supply is transmitted through a set of slip rings on the carousel, even if dozens of motors are used.

In conjunction with IO-Link wireless technology, Siboni's servo motors offer a high potential of capabilities without limiting the reliability and efficiency of the system solution. The products can now be processed in continuous motion with a variety of new applications, while at the same time the Increased process flexibility, reduced downtimes and machine complexity become.

„When looking for a solution that would enable our technology to perform complex tasks in one motion, we came across CoreTigo's IO-Link Wireless offering. This solution proved to be the only one on the market that met Siboni's high standards and offered new possibilities without compromise.“
