X-LITE™ Still is Sidel's latest 500ml PET packaging solution for unpressurised still water. The extremely lightweight industrial bottle design makes it one of the most cost-effective and sustainable packaging solutions on the market.
This solution is aimed at the market for still water in small-format PET bottles and in particular at manufacturers who want to optimise their packaging and production costs.
With a weight of 6.5 g and a height of 195 mm, Sidel X-LITE Still is the lightest 500 ml PET bottle for unpressurised still water in the world, offering the highest level of performance (even at very high production speeds) and a very light neck finish. The bottle is complemented by a Novembal Novaqua RightCAP26 closure.
High packaging capacity for unpressurised still water
Sidel X-LITE Still integrates the proven StarLITE™ Still bottle base solution, which is already well established worldwide thanks to its high stability and durability across the entire value chain, its limitless design flexibility and its significant weight reduction capabilities. StarLITE Still also enables significant energy savings, particularly by reducing blowing pressure and heating power, without Compromises in packaging quality. The floor design can be adapted to all Sidel stretch blow moulding platforms and applied to all existing production lines to reduce the total cost of ownership.
X-LITE Still has been optimised by the company's engineers for the Sidel Super Combi, an intelligent single solution that Five process steps integrated: Preform feeding, blowing, labelling, filling/sealing and cap feeding.
„This latest addition to our packaging portfolio is based on a special preform design for optimum mechanical performance and remains stable during labelling despite its extremely light weight. As it enables the design of the ideal bottle shape for nested packs and can withstand a stacking load of 34 kg, it perfectly meets the requirements for pallet stability,“ explains the Sidel packaging expert Laurent Naveau.
As one of the lightest still water bottles in the world, Sidel X-LITE Still enables a drastic reduction in the consumption of PET pellets: for example, compared to a bottle weighing 12 g, the new solution can save an impressive 1,485 tonnes of PET and achieve energy savings of up to 335,000 kWh/year.
Combined, these result in Savings 3,000 tonnes less CO2, which corresponds to 25 return flights between New York and Paris in an aeroplane with 200 passengers. For bottled water producers, this results in cumulative savings in PET granulate and energy of up to 2 million euros per year.
„For our customers, the new preform design of the X-LITE Still packaging solution and the design of the neck finish mean a very quick return on their investment, even if the retrofitting of the system requires a completely new injection stage“, comments Laurent Naveau. „The system upgrade to switch from a PET bottle weighing 12 g to the X-LITE Still with a weight of 6.5 g has paid for itself in two to four months.“
