SIG has developed a digital control and monitoring solution for bottling plants. The modular „SIG Plant 360 Controller“ is aimed at food and beverage manufacturers who want to optimise their processes.

The Modular software solution serves to optimise the growing amount of data sources and systems from different providers that are used in modern bottling plants are available. The open software is compatible with numerous plants and systems. Food and beverage manufacturers are therefore still free to choose their technology partners.

With the use of „SIG Plant 360 Controller“ gives users a complete overview of their entire production, from the receipt of raw materials right through to stock levels. All horizontal plant processes and systems can be merged step by step and additional functions can be added, explains SIG with.

The scalable software solution consists of the three core modules „Connector“, „Performer“ and „Governor“. The connector module ensures complete connectivity in a manufacturer's production plant. Communication between different machines is realised via the OPC UA interface (OPC Unified Architecture) is guaranteed.

„It is important that the integration of the connector works easily and quickly, as our customers“ production plants and filling lines run around the clock."

Toolbox with frequently required tools and modules

Condition monitoring is ensured via the Performer module, which is known as the „Plant Monitoring System“ (PMS) organises the exchange of information between the connected components. This creates a transparent database that monitors the entire system in real time and analyses the data collected in order to find errors in the process, gain intelligent insights and present them in visual dashboards. SIG provides the tools and modules typically required for monitoring performance, quality and energy consumption in a separate toolbox.

Finally, the governor module provides a „Manufacturing Execution System“ (MES), which enables complete control over a plant. All operating levels communicate via it, from the Material requirements planning in the ERP system through to the individual machines. With modular solutions based on digital workflows, users can optimise processes in areas such as material flow, production planning or traceability.

Stefan Mergel, Senior Product Manager Equipment at SIG, emphasises that the Governor module of the „SIG Plant 360 Controller“ is the „Overall equipment effectiveness“ (OEE) depending on the customer's circumstances. „From our experience, we have some proven key figures,“ says Mergel, „We know that the OEE can be improved by an average of five per cent and the plant capacity by around ten per cent.“
