SMC Deutschland GmbH has given the official go-ahead for the construction of the new SMC Campus in Egelsbach with a ground-breaking ceremony together with representatives from local politics, business development, construction supervision, the press and project partners. Following the building permit granted in July, the ceremony marks the start of a project in which SMC is investing around 100 million euros.

Rolf-Eric Matthies, Senior Vice President of Engineering, opened the event and spoke of a „new chapter for SMC - a place for collaboration, modern workplaces and progress“. Managing Director Daniel Langmeier emphasised the advantages of Egelsbach as a location due to its proximity to Frankfurt Airport and the good cooperation with the local community. The campus is due to be completed by June 2028 - in time for SMC Germany's 50th anniversary.

Expansion of research and development

With the new campus, SMC is planning a targeted expansion of research and development. Modern laboratories, test rooms and office space are to be created. The company is also considering the construction of a guest house for international colleagues, which could be used for training, exchange and education programmes in the future. In the long term, SMC believes that further expansions are possible on the site.

Significance for the community

Egelsbach's mayor Tobias Wilbrand emphasised the positive impact for the location: „With this campus, SMC is sending a clear signal of courage, future orientation and solidarity with our community.“ In addition to new jobs, he also recognised the company's social commitment.
