Flexible film for fishery products

Südpack has further developed its flexible film for thermoforming applications. The Multifol NT packaging film is characterised by a lower weight and good protection for fishery products.

Thanks to its sealing performance and high puncture resistance, the innovative flexible film is ideal for the Packaging of greasy, protein-containing or sharp-edged products such as fresh or frozen fish, for example salmon fillet, white fish or herring portions. Even with contaminated sealing surfaces, the Multifol Extreme offers production reliability and high pack quality with a very low leakage rate thanks to its sealing performance.

In addition, the optimised high-performance film scores with an approx. 20 per cent lower weight compared to the previous, already very material-efficient Multifol NT - and with around 30 per cent less weight compared to conventional PA/PE structures used on the market. Expressed in concrete figures, this means that a Multifol Extreme film with a thickness of just 150 µm can be used to replace conventional thermoforming films with a thickness of 200 µm - without compromising on product protection. If the Multifol Extreme base film is combined with a lidding film from the same product family, further material savings can be realised.

Fewer resources and lower costs

Multifol Extreme is an attractive option for processors and packers of fish and seafood to help conserve resources with an optimised packaging concept. The increased material efficiency alone can reduce the consumption of fossil feedstock and therefore CO2-footprint can be reduced.

In addition, packaging with a lower weight has an impact along the entire logistics chain, with further positive ecological and economic effects. Thanks to the thinner film, more material can be placed on the roll, which is reflected in lower storage and transport costs and reduced downtimes of the packaging machine is reflected in fewer reel changes.

South pack offers with the new Multifol Extreme a Solution for MAP and vacuum packaging, which optimally protects the food despite the material's low thickness. In addition to the packaging of fresh products, the concept is also suitable for applications in extreme temperature ranges, such as frozen goods.

From a process engineering point of view, the new development is characterised by good thermoforming properties with a large thermoforming draw and good processability on standard thermoforming packaging machines from.
