Practical packaging, robust protection, creative advertising medium: modern cardboard packaging and folding boxes have to fulfil several tasks at once in order to impress in terms of form and function. At the same time, they should be as individual as the products packaged in them - and their production and choice of materials should fulfil ecological criteria.
Many things that need to be packaged require a very specific solution that is customised to the product. All the better if brand owners can rely on the creative ideas and constructive expertise of a partner who knows how to combine the two. Because then the packaging not only becomes the perfect all-round protection for the product, but also the functional and visually appealing brand ambassador.
Ambitious goals
Bernhard Buech is known as a creative mind. In 2018, he took over Dörr GmbH & Co. KG in Pirmasens, Rhineland-Palatinate, in 2018 and set a new course for the company. „Making the impossible possible is what drives me as an entrepreneur. Only being satisfied when the result is perfect. Harmonising design and function, The company's mission is “to meet the highly topical challenge of sustainability", as he himself describes the aspirations of his work.
He draws his motivation from openly tackling every new challenge: „The work has to be fun, then new, unconventional products are created. We always work passionately and focussed on new, practical solutions.“

His declared aim is to position the company in such a way that it becomes the „most creative and innovative print service provider“ for packaging solutions and displays in Germany. In the last three years, 20 new jobs and apprenticeships have already been created and forward-looking investments have been made in machinery, digitalisation and automation. „A high level of folding and cutting expertise, rather constructive approaches to solutions and the manufacture of products that are reduced to the essentials“ are fundamental components of the success that Bernhard Buech is striving for.
Optimised for manual use
The company has been offering its customers specific product-related solutions for more than 100 years. Even more so since 2004, when the company focussed on its core business, cardboard production, with the Focus on shoe boxes focussed.
Despite all the modern technology in the company Dörr last proactive worked on a shoebox, which can be simply erect by hand can. This is because the appropriate machines are not available everywhere. And as a rule, they are not even needed there due to the small quantities involved.

The box is made from solid cardboard and is in no way inferior to its machined counterpart in terms of stability and design. Smaller workshops and shoe manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers who favour individuality are happy to use this option.
The packaging is made from chromo duplex board (GD2) or brown cardboard, which can be offset if required. Customise is used. In this typical example of the company's customer-orientated thinking and innovative strength, a material is used that 95 per cent recycled cardboard exists.
All-round package option for cardboard packaging and folding boxes
However, the company can also point to special and creative packaging solutions for the non-food and food sectors. For example, the company has developed boxes made from recycled material for organic chocolate bars, which also radiate sustainability through their appearance. Another type of packaging is already recommended for sweets due to its shape: It was designed by Dörr-Kartonagen in such a way that No adhesive dots set for the closure have to be closed. With „candy“ packaging, the ends are simply twisted, interlock and the pack remains securely closed (see image above).
In order for the cardboard packaging to fulfil its function as an image and advertising medium, an appropriate Finishing in the form of lacquering and embossing in demand. Other options include the combination with other materials, for example in the form of film lamination. The busy print service provider also takes care of this. To round off the product range for customers, the portfolio also includes Eye-catching displays and PoS materials. Because this way you also have control over how the product is presented on the sales floor.
