The Colors & Effects brand introduces the new Product brand Spectrasense for a family of particularly functional pigments. The Spectrasense technologies in this product group offer functionalities that go beyond the purely colouristic properties of the pigments. They can be used to influence the reaction of materials and surfaces to certain wavelengths in a broad spectrum that covers not only visible light but also near infrared (NIR).
The world of Spectrasense pigments
The pigments of the new product brand are therefore suitable for particularly demanding applications. Applications in the plastics, printing and coatings industries. For example, their special properties are used for heat regulation, where they significantly reduce the thermal load on dark surfaces in vehicles or in the construction industry. The pigments also support the use of new technologies that are associated with special requirements. For example, the laser welding of plastic components is made possible with pigments that produce a NIR-transparent upper layer, while the lower layer is provided with colourless NIR absorbers.
In recycling plants, the functional pigments in turn ensure that technical plastics are recognised so that they remain in the recycling process. By enabling NIR reflection even with dark colours, the pigments create detectable surfaces for the NIR sensors in the sorting systems.
