SPS 2021 will be an almost normal trade fair - without a mask

When the automation industry meets for the first SPS in Nuremberg at the end of November, it will be almost like a „normal“ trade fair. When the automation industry meets for the first SPS in Nuremberg at the end of November, it will be almost like a „normal“ trade fair. The Bavarian „3G plus regulation“ even makes it possible to visit without a mask. Exhibition Director Sylke Schulz-Metzner announced this in a packaging journal interview.

Taking into account the current Corona Ordinance of the Bavarian State Government, the SPS will take place from 23-25 November 2021 in Nuremberg as a so-called 3G plus event. This means that fully vaccinated and recovered persons as well as persons with a negative PCR test no more than 48 hours old may participate. This regulation enables a largely unrestricted trade fair experience - even without a mask - with maximum protection against infection.

In a video interview with packaging journal Sylke Schulz-Metzner, Vice President SPS at organiser Mesago, about this opportunity. „I think that's great. Visiting a trade fair without a mask makes the dialogue situation much easier. You feel more comfortable and I think it will be a really good boost for the SPS“.

Automation industry needs a boost

The mood in the industry was already slightly gloomy at the start of the coronavirus crisis in March 2020. During the peak of the pandemic, the entire industry, including automation, was not doing particularly well. The now improved mood has been weakened by supply bottlenecks and a shortage of raw materials. Nevertheless, she has the impression that the industry is once again looking to the future with vigour, says the trade fair boss.

Automation is needed to make industrial production more economically efficient. Automation is a key technology and has a key role to play in the recovery.

Hybrid lecture programme complements trade fair

The trade fair forum in Hall 3, jointly organised by the ZVEI and VDMA associations, offers numerous exciting contributions: The panel discussion „Value creation from machine data 4.0 - win-win through partnership“, which deals with the fair and individually self-determined utilisation of machine data, or the panel discussion „DC system concept for sustainable factories“. This will focus on innovative technologies that drive forward the achievement of international climate targets - an increasingly important topic in the industry. The current shortage of raw materials will also be addressed in the trade fair lecture programme and the audience is invited to exchange ideas with speakers and panellists.

The digital event platform „SPS on air“ will also feature high-calibre contributions. Christian Baudis, digital entrepreneur, futurist and former head of Google Germany, will kick things off on the first day of the trade fair with his keynote speech „How digital technologies are changing production“. On Wednesday, the programme will focus on „Use cases for AI“. In this context, Dr Henning Beck, neuroscientist, biochemist and German Science Slam champion, will address the topic of „Brain vs. AI - Smart automation for the world of tomorrow“.
