The Folding Carton Industry Association (FFI) has set up a new „Environmental Social Governance“ (ESG) working group to develop a standardised CO2 process map for folding carton companies.
At the kick-off meeting at the beginning of December, the more than 20 representatives from FFI member companies agreed that a standardised CO2 process map for folding carton companies as a neutral template from the association was a prerequisite. for a meaningful balancing of your own CO2 emissions of the company. It can also be used for comparable reporting of this key figure, for example in the environmental reports of companies in the sector. In addition, an exchange of information and experience on the „ecological rucksack“ that purchased tools and materials bring with them was identified as a further task for the working group.
Industry standards strengthen credibility
Which raw materials and supplies are essential to take into account individually, and which need only be taken into account with lump sums due to a minor contribution? Such questions will be addressed, as will Recommendations on calculation bases and data transmission by the suppliers. FFI industry standards can provide useful guidance here, as they ultimately also promote the credibility of the CO2 company data determined by FFI member companies. Other topics such as the evaluation of automated CO2 analysis tools or legally binding environmental reporting obligations were also placed on the agenda for the follow-up meeting in spring 2025.
“The FFI's new ESG platform can help companies to further develop their strategic environmental goals. By sharing information and experience, companies in our industry can derive insights to develop suitable strategies and measures for their production and products with a view to improving their carbon footprint.“
