The start-up Wax Solutions GmbH from Versmold has received funding from the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union. The funds will be used to bring the company's innovative coating solution, which is based on renewable raw materials, to market maturity. This solution makes it possible to replace plastic coatings in paper packaging.
Founded in 2023, the company develops customised coatings made from natural waxes and non-fossil raw materials that protect packaging paper from influences such as grease, water or water vapour. The recyclability of the coated papers is of central importance in order to keep the paper fibres in the material cycle. With its environmentally friendly technology, Wax Solutions is targeting the packaging industry and is aiming for industrial production in the long term.
The funded project „BaWaFlex“ aims to develop a sealable, flexible barrier coating for food packaging. The funds from the „Grüne Gründungen.NRW“ funding programme will be used to set up a pilot plant and initial large-scale trials, among other things.
„The funding helps us to accelerate our development and drive forward the expansion of our company,“ explains Dennis Kleine-Tebbe, Business Development Manager at Wax Solutions. Technical Manager Henry Spiering adds that the funding will also make it easier to scale up production.
