Starting signal for technical centre for plastics recycling

Coperion has started the construction of a recycling technology centre. Recycling processes are developed and tested in the Recycling Innovation Centre.

The construction of a new Coperion GmbH recycling technology centre has started in Niederbiegen near Weingarten. In the Coperion Recycling Innovation Centre, customers can develop and test products and recycling processes together with experts.

Driven by the increasing global demands for a circular economy for plastics, a clear trend towards more recycling has emerged in recent years. Coperion is responding to this trend with its systems and processes designed for recycling applications and with the new Recycling Innovation Centre. All essential Recycling process steps from material conveying and dosing to extrusion, pelletising and material post-processing are covered. In addition, the company will concentrate its own research activities for the recycling of plastics in the new Recycling Innovation Centre.

"The global demand for state-of-the-art and efficient recycling solutions for plastics will continue to increase in the coming years - not least due to the constantly growing requirements of environmental legislation such as the European Green New Deal and the changing consumer behaviour and environmental awareness of consumers. With the decision to establish the new Recycling Innovation Centre, we are setting clear priorities in order to be even better at our customers' service with our advanced technology and in-depth expertise and to support them on their path to greater sustainability and a functioning circular economy."

Due to changes in consumer behaviour and increasingly strict environmental legislation worldwide, the plastics industry has long since recognised that it needs to produce more sustainably. Many plastics preparation and processing companies around the world are faced with the question of how to recycling can be realised on an industrial scale and with the highest quality. In order to be able to answer these questions on a customer-specific basis, the new Recycling Innovation Centre will be working with customers from all over the world to develop concrete solutions. Solutions for all key recycling process steps tested and developed. These can then be efficiently implemented in production from a single source.

"With this state-of-the-art technical centre, we offer our customers a first-class solution for developing their processes and products. In addition to process and product solutions for the mechanical recycling of industrial and household waste, we can also work with our customers to develop and test innovative solutions for all other common recycling processes, thereby contributing to greater sustainability. In addition, the Recycling Innovation Centre offers us ideal conditions to drive forward our research and development activities for greater efficiency and expanded feasibility in plastics recycling."
