The STI Group has put a photovoltaic system into operation at its Hungarian folding carton plant in Kecskemét.
According to the company, around 2 million euros were invested; since August 2025, the site has been covering a large part of its electricity requirements from self-generated solar energy.
The system comprises around 5,000 solar modules. The Group had previously installed solar systems at its German plants in Alsfeld and Lauterbach in 2023 and 2024, thus continuing its own climate protection measures internationally. According to the STI Group, the project is helping to improve the carbon footprint.
Contribution to climate targets and ratings
The STI Group has been a member of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) since 2023. In 2025, the carbon footprint and the targets set were validated by the SBTi and confirmed as compliant with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. In addition, the Group was once again awarded platinum in the latest EcoVadis rating, making it the only medium-sized German packaging company to receive this Group-wide award.
Classification of the service
The output of the Hungarian plant is stated to be around 2,200 MWh per year. This corresponds to the annual energy consumption of around 600 single-family homes.
