Finnish paper and packaging manufacturer Stora Enso wants to grow in the field of renewable packaging. To this end, one billion euros is to be invested in the construction of a new plant for cardboard production by 2025.

Following the first machine conversion at the Oulu site last year from paper to kraftliner, the remaining unused paper line is to be converted into a modern and flexible line for folding boxboard and coated unbleached kraftboard. Stora Enso estimates the total annual capacity at 750,000 tonnes of cartonboard.

The new plant will primarily produce food and beverage packaging, in particular frozen and chilled packaging as well as dry and fast food packaging for the European and North American markets.
