As a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Osnabrück district, AWIGO Abfallwirtschaft Landkreis Osnabrück GmbH is the central point of contact for all matters relating to recycling and waste management in the region. The waste management company is now using a Strautmann compactor to compact the hard plastics on a trial basis.
AWIGO serves the approximately 360,000 residents in the 21 towns, municipalities and joint municipalities of the Osnabrück region as well as numerous commercial enterprises as a Certified waste management company with help and advice when it comes to environmentally friendly waste avoidance, disposal and recycling.
Due to the large quantities of different materials, it is important for AWIGO to dispose of the recyclable materials in a professional, environmentally friendly and economical manner. For hard plastics, it has been using Strautmanns PP1208 - a press for compacting the materials. Previously, the hard plastic was collected in loose containers at the recycling centres and taken to another location for compaction. The loose collection resulted in many transport journeys and costs. These were saved by using the PP 1208 directly at the recycling centre.
Thanks to special adaptations, the PP1208 was up to the task of compacting extremely large and bulky hard plastic parts with maximum pressing force. With 60 tonnes of pressing force for example Rubbish bins, garden chairs and bobby cars into a directly marketable bale. This saved a lot of space internally and reduced transport costs.
"The material is really highly compacted. The bale storage always looks good and we save on transport routes due to the transport capacity utilisation. This is good for us in monetary terms, but also for the environment due to the reduced CO2-emissions," reports Rolf BringewattWaste Management Officer at AWIGO.
