At this year's Compamed in Düsseldorf, Südpack Medica is presenting a tubular film made from the bio-based polymer PLA as an alternative to cellulose-based films or comparable films with high water vapour permeability.
The development of sustainable film solutions is one of the Südpack Group's most important strategic initiatives. At Compamed in Düsseldorf (14 to 17 November 2022), the focus will now be on a PLA tubular film for diagnostic applications from Südpack Medica in focus. The optimised high-performance film is an alternative to cellulose-based films such as cellophane or comparable films with high water vapour permeability.
The material is based on renewable raw materials and is industrially compostable in accordance with DIN EN 13432. Specially designed as a sterile barrier system for demanding diagnostic flow pack applications, The film is characterised by good mechanical properties and excellent oxygen and water vapour permeability. Gamma sterilisation is possible without visual impairment. Like all Südpack products, this film is easy and safe to process, even at high output rates.
Above all, however, it scores through the use of renewable raw materials with a reduced CO2-footprint - and thus supports the current endeavours with regard to climate and environmental protection.

As a manufacturer of plastic-based packaging solutions for sterile goods and a partner for the global medical technology, pharmaceutical and diagnostics industries, Südpack Medica will also be showcasing blister applications: The PP film, which has been available on the market since 2021, will be on show in Düsseldorf as an example. The material offers optimum barrier properties and is characterised by good processability on existing packaging lines. This enables the production of recyclable blister packs that achieve outstanding results in terms of pack security and efficiency.
The company also presents Other coextruded flexible and rigid films that are used as base and lidding films for the production of sterilisable thermoformed packaging. and - depending on the product to be packaged - can be equipped with a wide range of functionalities.
