The supporting programme at LogiMAT is dedicated to the important topics of intralogistics. Experts from science and industry will have their say in various lecture series. Live events and exhibitor presentations round off the programme around the trade fair.

Added value through intelligent utilisation of current trends and technologies. This is the motto under which the events for providing information on current intralogistics topics in the supporting programme of the LogiMAT 2023 summarise. With 15 high-calibre lecture series on current intralogistics topics, numerous informative exhibitor presentations in two forum areas, live events on load securing and the AIM-D's Tracking & Tracing Theatre (T&TT), and more. Live demonstrations in the outdoor area the trade fair organiser EUROEXPO Messe- und Kongress-GmbH, Munich, has once again succeeded in „organising a congress-level supporting programme for LogiMAT 2023,“ says Exhibition Director Michael Ruchty. „Trade visitors will be offered a unique lecture programme on all three days of the trade fair.“ The LogiMAT specialist forums will be held in a central location in the Atrium in the LogiMAT Arena.

„The central presentation there in a ‚lecture theatre atmosphere‘ was so well received at the premiere last year that we have taken on board the many praises and will be holding the lectures in the atrium again. All lecture series will of course be offered there with simultaneous translation into English.“

The range of topics covered by the information events on offer reflects the current concepts, technologies and challenges for efficient intralogistics. The focus is on The central focus is on the topics of sustainability, robotics, networking, digitalisation and automation. On the very first day of the trade fair, experts from business and logistics will discuss how industrial companies, retailers and logistics service providers can utilise sustainable packaging as a strategic advantage in terms of environmental friendliness and recyclability under the moderation of Sandra Lehmann, editor of Logistik Heute magazine. Prof Johannes Fottner, Full Professor at the Chair of Materials Handling Material Flow Logistics (fml) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and his discussion partners will then proclaim the paradigm shift for a sustainable future under the title „Logistics as a pioneer of the circular economy“. They show ways in which the Transformation process away from single use and short product life cycles in favour of circular business models and closed product, material and substance cycles can succeed.

Data and digital transformation

With the digital transformation, as well as the opportunities and risks of automation solutions will be the subject of a total of five specialist forums on the three days of the trade fair. The first day of the trade fair will kick off with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr Dr h. c. Michael ten Hompel, Managing Director of the Fraunhofer IML Institute and Professor at the FLW, Dortmund University of Technology, on the topic of „Artificial intelligence (AI) in intralogistics“. Among other things, he will explain how AI supports the most diverse areas of intralogistics and promotes the cooperative collaboration of people and machines. Also on 25 April, the panel guests, moderated by Oliver Scheel, Business Development Manager, EMVA - European Machine Vision Association, will explain how far-reaching industrial image processing is contributing to the digital transformation. Among other things, the most exciting vision tech applications for identification, tracking and robotics will be presented.

On 26 April, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Thorsten Schmidt, VDI Society for Production and Logistics (GPL) and holder of the Chair of Technical Logistics at the TU Dresden, will be discussing a Expert panel discusses the opportunities and limits of new automation trends at the specialist forum „Logistics projects with dynamic goals without personnel“. Two further specialist forums on 27 April will focus on the topic of digitalisation. Under the title „5G - the foundation of industrial digitalisation“, Stefan Wimmer, Managing Partner of Bayerische Funknetz GmbH (BAYFU), and his discussion partners will provide an overview of how 5G technology can help to master the challenges of digital change. Michael Lickefett, Head of the Factory Planning and Production Management department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, and his guests will illustrate how efficiently capture, analyse and process data using the „digital value stream method“ and continuously keep an eye on performance and sustainability become.

Opportunities and risks in the crisis

The complex range of topics relating to On the second and third days of the trade fair, a total of five lecture series will cover robotics and flexibility as well as the optimal handling of trends in intralogistics. In light of the fact that product customisation and shorter production cycles are increasing the pressure on manufacturers to adapt their production systems, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Robert Schulz, Head of the Institute of Materials Handling and Logistics (IFT) at the University of Stuttgart, will be moderating a specialist forum entitled „Flexibility at any price?“ on the question of the extent to which investing in highly flexible logistics systems is worthwhile. The focus will be on options for flexibility and the systems„ ability to act. Also on the second day of the trade fair, Dr Günter Ullrich, Managing Partner of Forum-FTS GmbH, Head of the VDI AGV Technical Committee, and a high-calibre group of industry representatives will be presenting “Quo Vadis, mobile robotics?" Future impulses from the VDI AGV technical committee. One of the focal points three concrete new developments: the growth potential of mobile robotics in outdoor applications. Jan Kaulfuhs-Berger, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Technische Logistik, and expert panellists will also be discussing mobile robotics in warehouses, transport and road traffic under the title „Parallel worlds in logistics“.

Under the direction of Matthias Pieringer, Editor-in-Chief of Logistik Heute magazine, there will also be a „LogiMAT Summit Meeting“ on 26 April. Leading minds from companies and science will discuss In view of energy crises, armed conflicts, material shortages and pandemic consequences, what opportunities and risks arise from the current situation for intralogistics? result. The corresponding trends will also be the focus of a separate specialist forum. Under the title „Intralogistics trends - springboard or dead end?“, Dr Jörg Pirron, Chairman of the Board of the Intralogistics Network in Baden-Württemberg e. V. and Managing Director of Protema Unternehmensberatung GmbH, will moderate a panel discussion on the practicality and cost-effectiveness of technical and organisational solutions with a view to sustainable trends and innovations.

In addition to sustainability and flexibility, the pandemic and global supply chain disruptions have brought the topic of resilience increasingly to the centre of supply chain management. In the panel discussion on 26 April, the The future of supply chain management and structures for efficient crisis management will be demonstrated. AutoID technologies as enabling technologies for the design and optimisation of the digital supply chain will also be the subject of a specialist forum on 27 April. Under the direction of Peter Altes, Managing Director of AIM-D e. V., and Thorsten Aha, Editor-in-Chief of ident magazine, ident Verlag & Service GmbH, the contribution of AutoID to the digital supply chain will be discussed. Digital transformation and efficient management and optimisation of business processes thematised. Last but not least, the specialist forum „Run for Talents - winning with further training?“ focuses on remedies for the shortage of skilled labour. Robert Schulz, Director of the Institute for Materials Handling and Logistics (IFT) at the University of Stuttgart, will present further training opportunities and interdisciplinary, part-time formats as a solution for retaining committed young talent in the long term.

Another innovation in the supporting programme is the positioning of the two „Forum Innovations“ presentation areas. On the northern axis of the exhibition centre in Hall 5 („Forum North/North“) and opposite on the southern axis in Hall 6 („Forum South/South“), exhibitors will be presenting products and solutions on all three days. Among other things Energy efficiency, artificial intelligence (AI) and CO2 reduction as well as options for automation and digitalisation will be presented. The agenda also includes efficiency increases in robot-assisted case picking as well as an outlook on developments in the forklift segment, current solutions to problems and the presentation of future AMR for order fulfilment.

„All in all, an information programme that no other format offers in this breadth and depth, once again underlining LogiMAT 2023“s status as the industry's leading international information and communication platform."
