In Spain, ALDI, one of Europe's leading discounters, has chosen SIG's combibloc EcoPlus 1,000ml aseptic carton pack to offer its Milsani brand UHT milk in an even more sustainable packaging solution that can reduce CO2 compared to a conventional 1-litre carton pack of the same format from SIG.
ALDI Spain acts in accordance with the Principle of avoidance, reuse, recycling, to help combat the problem of packaging waste and at the same time promote the circular economy. The CO2-Savings of up to 28 % is due to the material composition. Main component of combibloc EcoPlus is to 82 % raw cardboard,which is made from the renewable and completely bio-based FSC®-certified raw material wood and gives the packaging stability.
An ultra-thin polyamide layer serves as a barrier to protect the product from loss of flavour and foreign odours. In the aluminium-free combibloc EcoPlus composite structure fine polyethylene layers are added from the inside and outside.
The inner layer forms a liquid barrier for the product, the outer layer keeps moisture out.
The positive environmental properties of combibloc EcoPlus over the product life cycle of the carton pack, from the production of the raw materials to the finished carton pack, were analysed in an independent study, ISO-compliant life cycle assessment study of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (IFEU).
The Milsani dairy products are filled by one of Spain's leading suppliers of high-quality dairy products on a CFA310 filling machine from SIG.
