Packaging manufacturer Swedbrand is now using exclusively vegan dextrin-based adhesives to produce its gift boxes and cardboard packaging at a new plant in Poland.
The Swedbrand Group today announced that its new converting facility in Poland, which specialises in the production of personalised premium gift boxes and cartons for luxury goods, will use only dextrin-based plant-based adhesives. This Adhesives are natural, biodegradable and recyclable.
They are also vegan and are used instead of traditional adhesives that contain animal products. The adhesives commonly made from potato starch are water-based and do not require solvents. They also comply with both European and US regulations for contact with food.
Vegan adhesives can be processed at low temperatures
Factory manager Bogdan Putkowho has 35 years of experience in the Polish packaging market, explains: "We have decided to use dextrin-based adhesives as this is in line with the global trend towards greater sustainability and is also in line with our sustainability strategies. The adhesives are produced on a plant basis and consume far less energyas they work at temperatures between 30 and 38 degrees Celsius. Adhesives with animal products, on the other hand, must be processed at temperatures of 70 degrees Celsius."
The adhesive containers can also remain open without the adhesive hardening, which reduces waste and simplifies the production process. "We are currently unaware of any other manufacturer of premium gift boxes and cardboard packaging that exclusively uses this type of adhesive."
Dextrin-based water-based adhesives can be used with a wide range of machines and processes. up to 15 cartons per minute be processed.
