TekniPlex Consumer Products will be presenting its expanded range of sustainable GeoPack packaging solutions at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta/USA from 24 to 26 January. The product range includes egg cartons and trays made from cast fibre and recycled PET.
The GeoPack solutions from TekniPlex fulfil sustainability criteria, which comprise various combinations of the „4 Rs“ of materials science - reduce, recycle, reuse and renew - including biodegradable or compostable materials, recycled content, recyclability and renewable substrates. Solutions are tailored to customers' sustainability criteria, including the provision of information on the environmental impact of specific products.
GeoPack originally comprised paper, fibre and polylactic acid (PLA) products made from maize and beet plants. The range has since been expanded and now includes a wide range of sustainable material science solutions, which include egg cartons and trays made from moulded fibres and recycled PET (rPET), which consist of 100% recycled material (PCR).
TekniPlex will also be presenting its PET protein trays at the IPPE, which are made of 100 per cent PET and contain up to 50 per cent recycled material. They are used as a replacement for polystyrene foam trays and are unbreakable even in harsh, cold environments. In addition to their more sustainable material, they are also a patented technique called Hidden Rim Technology which prevents the outer packaging film from tearing and increases freight and transport efficiency.
