The adhesive tape manufacturer Tesa is investing in the expansion of its plant in Offenburg. With the expansion, the company is strengthening its production capacities for industrial and consumer packaging solutions.
With the official ground-breaking ceremony in Offenburg, Tesa is reaffirming its long-term commitment to Germany. The plant expansion is a response to the growing demand for self-adhesive solutions, which are used in numerous packaging applications - from industrial processes to end consumer products. Production in the new part of the building is scheduled to start in 2027.
The Offenburg plant is the largest production site of Tesa SE worldwide and is an important manufacturing partner for the packaging industry. Around 200 million square metres of adhesive tape are produced there every year, including numerous products used for sealing, labelling or bundling applications in packaging. With the planned expansion, Tesa intends to secure its supply capability and further expand its innovative strength for sustainable adhesive tape solutions.
„With this project, we are not only strengthening our production capacities, but also setting an important example for our sustainability goals,“ said plant manager Holger Rauth. The new building structure is designed to fulfil the highest efficiency standards. Since the beginning of the year, the plant has been using a photovoltaic system to generate around six gigawatt hours of electricity per year, covering around 25 per cent of its energy requirements - a significant contribution to the climate-friendly production of adhesive packaging solutions, according to the statement.
Sustainability as part of the global „we do“ strategy
The investment in Offenburg is part of the company-wide „we do“ sustainability strategy. Tesa plans to invest around 300 million euros in the transformation to climate-neutral production by 2030. The company has already achieved a CO₂ reduction of 39 per cent (Scope 1 and 2) and obtains 90 per cent of its global electricity from renewable sources.
As one of the leading providers of self-adhesive system solutions for the packaging industry, Tesa is continuously working on the development of solvent-free and recyclable products. With the expansion of the Offenburg plant, the company is creating the basis for further advancing these developments and providing packaging manufacturers worldwide with more efficient, more sustainable adhesive solutions.
