
Adhesive specialist Tesa has recently added a paper-based tear strip to its portfolio. The Tesa 51344 can be placed in the waste paper stream and is primarily aimed at the e-commerce industry.

This is a paper-based tear strip for envelopes and cartons. The paper backing of the adhesive tape is coated with an adhesive that ensures reliable adhesion even on cardboard with a high recycled content. According to the company, once the packaging has been disposed of, the adhesive tape can be recycled together with the packaging material.

The fact that Tesa 51344 is recyclable and can therefore be disposed of with the cardboard material is also confirmed by the recyclability test in accordance with PTS-RH 021:2012. This method is used to determine the content of dissolved, colloidal and suspended substances in the aqueous phase of the fibre suspension after dissolution using a laboratory scale. In the further development phase, Tesa 51344 also passed several application tests with different types of cardboard and corrugated cardboard. The adhesive tape impressed in the tests with its high adhesive strength and reliable opening behaviour.
