Young people should learn to appreciate sustainable packaging

The carton composite packaging manufacturer Tetra Pak has published its 2017 sustainability report. The Swedish company has also launched a digital campaign on „good packaging“ under the hashtag #gutverpackt.

.Tetra Pak has published its 2017 Sustainability Report. For the first time, the carton composite packaging manufacturer adopted standards from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to present its data. The Swedish company has also launched a campaign on „good packaging“.

The GRI standards are, according to Tetra Pak the most widely used international framework for the measurement and communication of Sustainability services. By using this methodology, „we can further increase the clarity and transparency of our annual reports,“ says Chris Huntley, Senior Vice President Communications at Tetra Pak and Chairman of the company's Sustainability Forum, adding: „It allows us to Environmental, social and corporate governance aspects that are most important for our company, our customers and society.“

What do young people who belong to generations Y or Z expect from a „good packaging“?

Bloggers and influencers discussed this topic at a Tetra Pak workshop in Berlin. At the conference, the company launched a digital campaign under the hashtag „1TP5Well packed“. The communication measures aim to convey the importance of sustainable packaging.

„We want to initiate a discussion about good packaging and inform younger consumers in particular,“ said Stephan Karl, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Germany.

In various presentations and discussion rounds, the invited participants learnt interesting facts about current packaging trends. It was particularly emphasised that packaging today very mobile consumers are used. Accordingly, they must be the right size, handy and resealable be.

The model Fata Hasanović, who is well known to younger consumers, backed up this theory with her own experiences. She explained: „I travel a lot and it can be stressful at times. Packaging has to withstand that.“
