Thimm is installing a new digital printing system from HP at its Alzey site, which will use technical innovations to harmonise even shorter delivery times with sustainable printing processes.
The installation of the PageWide T1195i Press from HP is already in full swing. It is scheduled to go into operation at the Thimm site in Alzey in 2024. The new digital printing system will then operate at faster speeds and provide more production capacity. It will be equipped with the latest generation of print headsThe innovative HP thermal inkjet print heads of the six integrated colour units guarantee consistent print quality even at high speeds. This means that a wide variety of print images can be produced for sophisticated packaging designs. Typical digital printing effects are greatly minimised. This reduces unnecessary waste and conserves resources.
When it comes to sustainability, the system also impresses with the robustness of the individual print heads with a particularly long service life - resources can also be saved here.
„The digital printing process is very energy-efficient: overall, we use around 52 per cent less energy in digital printing compared to flexographic printing. We can also save around 26 per cent CO2e emissions that would be generated in the production of photopolymer clichés - these are not needed in digital printing.“
DisplayMichael Weber, Head of Strategy of the Thimm Group
In order to be able to produce even more efficiently and conserve resources, the packaging manufacturer decided to equip the new digital printing system with two additional inking units from Conprinta. „Thanks to this addition, we can now also offer our customers offer both spot and full-surface coating in combination with digital printing in a sustainable way. We save valuable resources by being able to apply paints in a targeted manner instead of over large areas,“ emphasises Weber.
The foundation work for the installation of the new system has already been completed before the next step is to prepare the peripherals and set up the machine. It is scheduled to go into operation in the first quarter of 2024. The new digital printing system is a milestone for Thimm in achieving its digitalisation vision of the Internet of Packs - the networking of supply chains with the help of packaging.
