It will soon be time to wrap the Christmas presents again. The industry association Die Papierindustrie e. V. asked its members about this year's trends.
The era of thin paper seems to be coming to an end. As the association's survey has shown, customers tend to favour papers that are not only good for packaging but can also be used for handicrafts. Many consumers also want an indication of sustainability.
When it comes to the paper itself, classic wrapping paper plays an important role in both homemade Advent calendars and wrapping paper. This year, however, there are also Grass papers and other „sustainable“ papers, printed in colour, with embossed foil, with glitter and flock. Plus bags, pouches and cardboard packaging. This year, coloured cord is being used as ribbon. On the other hand, plastic film, including transparent film, is hardly seen any more.
Christmas gifts classic in gold or festive in paisley
If you want to be on trend in terms of colour, has the choice between classic, joyful and festive. If you like it classic, you can't go past gold - gold on white, gold on red, gold on green, plus silver on black. If you want to set cheerful accents, you will always find pink, pink, light red tones, a little turquoise and often white among the more colourful shades. The festive patterns are dominated by dark colours - grey, silver, black, petrol and clear shapes. The motifs include stars, deer, circles, baubles, Christmas trees - and the paisley makes a comeback.
Once everything is unwrapped, the wrapping paper should be put in the waste paper bin. In this way, it contributes to the high recycling rate in Germany. The German paper industry uses 79 tonnes of waste paper for 100 tonnes of new paper. A total of around 16.9 million tonnes last year.
