
TÜV Süd and RecycleMe have agreed on a global cooperation for testing and determining the recyclability of packaging. The two partners are thus intensifying their existing collaboration.
Back in November 2021, the two partners jointly awarded the first certificate based on the TÜV Süd standard "Recyclability of packaging" awarded.
In its Green Energy & Sustainability business unit, the testing and certification service provider offers A broad spectrum of sustainability services which are based on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). A particular focus is on on strengthening and expanding the circular economy.
The team from RecycleMe advises and supports customers from various industries in areas such as optimising the recyclability of their packaging and meeting international obligations around extended producer responsibility. To achieve this, RecycleMe relies on state-of-the-art technology, digital assessment tools and innovative solutions.
Create incentives for manufacturers
As part of their collaboration, the aim is to further improve support for manufacturers, bottlers, importers, online retailers, retail chains and other suppliers on their path to greater sustainability. The two partners combine digital analysis methods with established audit processesin order to achieve certification in accordance with the TÜV Süd standard "Recyclability of packaging". The testing and certification process can be used for packaging made of plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, aluminium, ferrous metals, wood and composite materials.
"From our cooperation our customers in particular will benefit", says Thore Lapp, Head of the Green Energy & Sustainability Business Unit at TÜV Süd. Packaging is a product and must also be treated as a product.

"RecycleMe's digital testing methodology enables comprehensive analysis and, in conjunction with our verification and validation, ensures the necessary transparency."

The first certificate according to the TÜV Süd standard "Recyclability of packaging" was awarded in November 2021 for a folding carton with inliner from Plukon, one of Europe's largest suppliers of fresh chicken and poultry convenience products. As part of their collaboration, the two partners will not only carry out joint tests and projects, but will also work together in a Continuous transfer of expertise to further develop the technical testing methodology together.
