With around 650 visitors from around 50 countries and around 25 exhibitors, Pharmazing Days 2019 was once again one of the largest industry events for pharmaceutical packaging. The organisers, the companies of the Uhlmann Group, used the three-day symposium in mid-June 2019 to present their integrated complete solutions for pharmaceutical packaging.

Uhlmann Pac-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG presented its new packaging lines for Solida and Liquida as well as a modular software suite. Koch Pac-Systeme, Cremer Speciaalmachines and Wonder Packing Machinery complemented the range of services with their customised packaging solutions. There was positive feedback from the international trade visitors, who travelled from North and South America, Asia, the Arab world and Europe.

„Pharmaceutical companies are currently facing the challenge of smaller batches and increasing pressure towards digitalisation. We develop complete solutions for our customers comprising packaging systems, services and digital applications to help them meet these challenges. And we share our expertise with them. We experienced how much this is appreciated at our Pharmazing Days in June,
Michael Mrachacz, Managing Director Sales at Uhlmann.

The summit meeting of the Pharmaceutical packaging industry takes place every three years at Uhlmann's headquarters in Laupheim, southern Germany. Here, Uhlmann offers its customers the opportunity to make contacts, find out about current industry trends and take part in expert discussions. The main topics were Digitalisation and optimisation of the pharmaceutical packaging process, for example, when converting production lines, during maintenance and servicing and through the Six Sigma method.

Great interest in digital topics and solutions

„How can digital applications be integrated into existing processes? How can production data create added value? How can higher availability, greater efficiency and speed be achieved? These questions from our customers have led to a great deal of interest in the presentations on digitalisation, but also in our digital solutions themselves.“,
Michael Mrachacz, Managing Director Sales at Uhlmann.

In the new Uhlmann competence centre for digitalisation visitors to the Pharmazing Days were able to experience Uhlmann's newly compiled software suite live. The software modules can be individually combined and support all indirect processes such as administration, planning, control, automation and standardisation. Trade visitors were able to try out the innovative Process Guidance for carrying out and documenting SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) or digital training courses for themselves.

Uhlmann also presented other software suite modules such as „Supervisory Control“ for a high level of transparency in production processes and „Condition Monitoring“. This module continuously and automatically monitors and analyses the machine status - for consistently high availability and production quality. There was positive feedback on the entire software suite from the customers and interested parties present.

„In our industry, it's not just about the machine. If we want to optimise, we need to automate and digitalise our processes holistically. What we saw and heard today at Uhlmann is a great help to us“,
Visitors to the event.

„We are planning condition monitoring across all lines and all sites. That's why the live demo from Uhlmann was of great interest to us.“,
Other visitor to the event.

Integrated, customised complete solutions for pharmaceutical packaging

Under the motto „Solutions Beyond Packaging“ the Uhlmann Group impressed visitors with its extensive portfolio of services for solving customer requirements along the entire value chain.

Uhlmann Pac-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG exhibited two new packaging lines: The Blister line BEC 200 offers an ideal introduction to the Premium segment of the solids packaging. Its high quality at an attractive entry-level price and its flexibility make it interesting for contract packers, manufacturers of generics or food supplements. Thanks to simple set-up processes and fast format changeovers, it is particularly effective for small quantities. The BEC 200 blister line packs solids in up to 200 blisters and 150 cartons per minute. If demand increases, the output can be increased to up to 300 blisters per minute with an upgrade.

The second innovation is the BLU 200, a blister packaging line for Liquid medication in syringes, ampoules, vials, cartridges, vials and pens. Decisive for the high level of cost-effectiveness is gentle product handling, flexibility, fast cleaning and format changes as well as simple operation. It offers a modular design and a wide range of configuration options for all requirements. This makes the BLU 200 the centrepiece of a flexible, customised liquida line.

Cremer Speciaalmachines from the Netherlands, a specialist in 100 per cent reliable counting, introduced the new, conventional Bottle filling line IBL 100 and a very compact rotary actuator IBC 50, live. The proven IBC 150 bottle filling line was extended to include cGMP-capable single tablet separation and was also shown in operation. Wonder Packing Machinery presented the eBL 350, produced in China, a reliable and economical line consisting of a blister machine and cartoner to open up further market segments. In addition, the special machine manufacturer Koch Pac systems about its range of services, which extends from integrated processing of long runs to feeding and final packaging to semi-automatic sealing of small to medium quantities. As an example, Koch exhibited the KDT blister machine in combination with Track & Trace by Uhlmann at the Pharmazing Days.

„The Pharmazing Days were a complete success for the Uhlmann Group. We will continue to organise the Pharmazing Days as an industry event and develop the format further in line with customer and market requirements.“;
