The mechanical engineering company Uhlmann Pac-Systeme has received the Business Hero Award 2022 in the „Tradition“ category. The Laupheim-based company was honoured for its transformation in the area of production organisation, which began in 2016.
As a family-run international system provider, Uhlmann Pac-Systeme develops flexible packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. Since 2016, the company has been transforming its production organisation in order to sustainably improve its processes. According to the jury, the company demonstrates with these activities that tradition also means changeability without giving up the values of a family business. In summer 2022, the expert jury of the Business Hero Award will therefore honour the company as one of the best medium-sized companies in the „Tradition“ category.
In 2016, the company launched a comprehensive lean transformation. The first visible step was the reorganisation of production, from classic workshop production to a flow-oriented cell concept. The transformation was initially implemented with external support. In 2017, the company then decided to take the transformation to the next level by building up its own lean expertise and to involve its own staff in the changes in a targeted manner.
This step enabled staff to be trained in lean principles across the board and the new knowledge to be applied directly in practice in the form of workshops and projects. „Employees can contribute their expertise and ideas and also implement them directly themselves, which has led to a significant improvement in the acceptance of lean approaches,“ says CTO Cristian Reiter.
