Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) and hardware partner Sensos have developed an ultra-thin smart label that is barely larger than a credit card and can be used in parcel shipping, fleet management or for monitoring luxury goods.
With Smart Label, G+D is launching an all-in-one solution that includes hardware, an iSIM and IoT connectivity and can be managed via an IoT platform. The GPS accuracy for global tracking coverage is less than 10 metres under ideal conditions. To detect movement and acceleration, the smart label uses Intelligent motion sensors. In conjunction with Customisable intervals for the transmission of location data and flexible, cloud-based configurations the label can be customised to meet specific business requirements. This allows users to manage, monitor and ensure the integrity of their goods at every stage of their journey - stationary or en route.
The additional features of the Smart Label include An opening and closing sensor for protection against tampering and a Temperature monitoring to ensure the integrity of perishable goods. The Smart Label is easy to use as it is activated as soon as it is applied to an item. It is also reusable and suitable for air traffic approved. This makes it one of the lightest, most versatile, most accurate and most cost-effective tracking solutions on the market.
„G+D's goals also include developing robust and innovative solutions for the transport and logistics market. Following the launch of our first-generation smart label solution last year, we have been working on developing an even more compact and highly accurate solution. With the new G+D Smart Label, we now have an end-to-end solution that also offers dedicated service and support as well as a guarantee from a single source. Our industry has already seen many solutions for which there is only limited support after the sale. With the Smart Label, we now want to set a new trend here too.“
Sharath Muddaiah, Head of portfolio strategy for IoT solutions at G+D
The use cases for the G+D Smart Label are wide-ranging and include from simple parcel and consignment tracking to the dispatch and tracking of high-value goods. For example, one of the first users of G+D's smart label technology - Track & Pay - has utilised the labels, to design the world's first IoT-supported B2B payment solution, which integrates shipment tracking with payment processing. When a shipment arrives, a payment is automatically triggered to ensure a seamless and timely transaction.
