The Swiss company Univerre Pro Uva SA, based in Sierre in the canton of Valais, is now printing on glass bottles using a digital printer. This enables not only colourful motifs, but also 3D effects.

What has been possible in other market sectors for years is still relatively new in the glass packaging sector: digital printing. Univerre has now realised a wine bottle with digital print for the Gregor Kuonen winery in Salgesch.

"With our new and modern wine line Kiss we primarily want to appeal to young wine novices. Digital printing was the perfect way to realise this project: Lots of colours, modern design and all around the bottle. Our customers are enthusiastic as soon as they see the bottle and want to taste the wine immediately - a complete success." Patrick Revey, co-owner and managing director of the Gregor Kuonen winery

Hyper-personalisation is a trendwhich has been growing in all market sectors for several years and is becoming increasingly popular. Customers want to be addressed individually and personally. This starts with the packaging.

Univerre perfects glass printing

In order to offer its customers the best possible personalisation service, Univerre has decided to invest in a new digital printing machine at its Swiss printing centre in Bioley-Orjulaz in the canton of Vaud. Digital printing on glass has been perfected in recent years and can now offer an incredible range of personalisation options. Variety of personalisation options on glass packaging.

There are no limits to creativity, regardless of whether a photo, a graphic or a memory is chosen as the motif. The customer becomes an artist and can transform their glass packaging into a unique work of art. This makes every glass packaging unique. It is possible to print small quantities of glass packaging. The advantage: numbering or packaging with different names can now be realised effortlessly. Each product is unique and can be customised to the needs of the consumer.

Three-dimensional effects possible

Digital printing on glass makes it possible to unite all the senses. The glass packaging becomes a tactile experience with three-dimensional effects. Transparent and coloured embossing is now possible. Until now, customised glass packaging required costly and time-consuming investment in both design and production. This process makes it practically impossible to produce short runs for brands.

It is rare to see a craft beer or a seasonal product in customised glass packaging. This is changing thanks to digital printing: 3D printing enables brands a strong differentiation on glass packaging and turn the standard bottle into a creative canvas.
